The national service scheme was launched in 1969 by the government of India, accordance with the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, keeping in mind the responsibility of every individual towards the society. primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student’s youth through voluntary community services. The ideological basis of NSS is inspired by the Mahatma Gandhi. The purpose of NSS is to give education through service. The primary objective of NSS is to develop the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. The motto of NSS is ‘NOT ME ,BUT YOU’. An NSS volunteer give priority to the community before self.
NSS attempts to establish meaningful linkages between ‘Campus and Community’, ‘College and Village’ and ‘Knowledge and Action’.
NSS operates through unit in universities, colleges and institutions with students enrolling as volunteers. NSS organizes Regular Activities like- health campaign, literacy drives, plantation and sanitation program. Through Special Camp of 7 to 10 days, it spreads the awareness of Environmental Protection, Health and Hygiene, Rural Development, Disaster Relief and so on.
The NSS Unit-01 of St. Xavier’s College, Maharo also conducts regular activities throughout the year under the supervision of NSS Program officer Dr. Deepak Kumar Kothriwal, in which some are Voting Awareness Program, Plantation, Road safety Program, Literacy, Gender Equality, Cleanliness and to Celebrate birth anniversary of famous personalities. By the NSS unit of college Special Camp are also being organized since last year which gives real knowledge of life to the students brings closer them to the society.
